Our Philosophy.
Whether you are polishing your book, preparing for an on-stage role, ramping up for college auditions or All-State's, or anywhere in between, we are here to help you feel confident, prepared, and in control of your voice.
We believe that you can accomplish all of those goals (and more!) by diligently and systematically developing functional and efficient vocal habits. We also believe that a functional technique that is grounded in traditional voice pedagogy and evidence-based research can help you to communicate more effectively and more artfully.
At Downtown Voice Studios, we teach all styles and genres of singing. Many of us think that there are drastic differences between opera, musical theatre, jazz, pop, folk, etc., however, in practice, a functional and efficient voice can accomplish so many feats! Stylistic differences are important to recognize and can be produced without compromising vocal health.
Your voice lessons should be designed around you and your goals. While we might ask you to try out a different kind of singing every once-in-a-while or push you to perform a new exercise or task, the type of music you sing will be determined by you.
Voice lessons should be fun and you should feel good after every session!
