Lesson Q&A
What will a lesson look like?
Your lessons will look pretty traditional in terms of their structure. Half of your lesson will be spent singing exercises and completing tasks to help you build strength, flexibility, and agility for your voice. The second half of your lesson will focus on repertoire; singing songs and larger works based on your own goals and vocal needs.
What kind of music will I sing?
Whatever you want.
No, really! Our teachers have been trained to help you sing any style or genre of music you want to sing. There may be times when we ask a “Classical” singer to learn a musical theatre song, or vice versa, but those decisions will be collaborative and we will always explain the pedagogical reasoning behind the ask.
Do you offer singing voice rehabilitation?
While Dr. Glasner is a singing voice specialist and speech-language pathologist, Downtown Voice Studios does not offer voice therapy or singing voice rehabilitation at this time.
Singers who study with Downtown Voice Studios and who experience a vocal injury or recurrence of symptoms are referred back to medical professionals. Medical care is not provided by Downtown Voice Studios.
We frequently collaborate with speech-language pathologists to help their clients during and following a course of voice rehabilitation. Many singers who end up needing voice rehabilitation are ultimately transitioned into habilitation sessions with a qualified singing voice specialist. Downtown Voice Studios is happy to offer these transitional services and we welcome inquiries from medical voice practices and voice clinics.
If you are an SLP and are looking to refer a patient to us or would like to discuss collaboration, please feel free to email Josh at jdglasner@gmail.com .
What kind of equipment will I need?
In order to best serve you, we ask you to have an external microphone, a pair of wired headphones (without a microphone attached), and an ethernet connection to your router.
While we are willing to try out lessons if you have a USB microphone, those types of mics typically distort very loud or very quiet singing. So, we recommend that you invest in an audio interface and an external microphone instead.
“Well, that sounds complicated…”
Let us make it easier for you! Downtown Voice Studios offers a complimentary introductory session so that we can figure out the best possible tech solution for you!
How much do lessons cost?
We offer single lesson consultations, recurring lessons, and semester-long packages. Head on over to the Scheduling page to view our different plans!
